Magnet Ingestion Risk Prompts Recall of SHEIN Bear-Shaped Magnets

Swallowed magnets can tear through a child’s digestive tract in a matter of hours, and federal regulators say a batch of bear-shaped refrigerator magnets sold by SHEIN carries exactly that danger. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on September 10, 2026, that SHEIN Distribution Corporation is recalling roughly 4,640 units of the decorative magnets because they fail to meet the mandatory federal safety standard for magnets.

The magnets, sold loose in small plastic packets, are small enough for a child to mistake for candy or a toy. If more than one magnet is swallowed, they can attract each other through the walls of the intestines, causing perforations, twisting, blockages, blood poisoning and, in severe cases, death.

Products Affected by This Recall

The recall covers ‘Bear-Shaped Decorative Refrigerator Magnets,’ sold in packs of 10, 20 or 30 pieces in an assortment of colors. Consumers can identify the recalled items by the SKU ‘sh2403211731230106,’ which is printed on the packaging label. The magnets were sold exclusively online at SHEIN.com between May 2025 and February 2026, priced between $3 and $4.

Why Was This Recall Issued?

According to the CPSC, the magnets violate the federal mandatory standard for magnets because they consist of small, loose, high-powered magnetic pieces that can appeal to children and teens and pose a serious ingestion hazard. Unlike a single swallowed magnet, which typically passes through the body without incident, two or more magnets swallowed together (or a magnet paired with another metal object) can clamp together inside the digestive system.

That internal attraction is what makes small high-powered magnets so dangerous. The CPSC has pursued a series of similar recalls in recent years as loose decorative and novelty magnets have continued to slip past import checks and reach consumers, especially through online marketplaces.

Who Is Affected?

Anyone who purchased the bear-shaped magnets through SHEIN’s website during the nine-month sales window is affected. Because the product was sold only online, the CPSC has not tied the recall to any specific state or region, and the magnets could be in homes anywhere in the country. No injuries or incidents have been reported to date, but the agency is urging swift action given the severity of the potential harm.

What Should You Do?

Consumers who own these magnets should not wait for an incident to happen. The CPSC and SHEIN are advising the following steps:

  • Stop using the bear-shaped refrigerator magnets immediately.
  • Move the magnets out of reach of children and teens right away.
  • Contact SHEIN to request a full refund.
  • Be prepared to confirm that the recalled magnets have been thrown away, as SHEIN will ask consumers to affirm disposal when processing the refund.

Consumers can reach SHEIN toll-free at 833-853-8668, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Friday. Refund requests can also be submitted by email at recall@shein.com or through the company’s online recall portal at us.shein.com/product-recalls/list. Shoppers can also visit us.shein.com and click ‘Recall’ at the bottom of the page for more details.

Official Statement

In its published notice, the CPSC reiterated that federal law bars anyone from reselling a product once it has been recalled by the Commission or through a voluntary recall coordinated with the agency. The magnets were imported by SHEIN Distribution Corporation, based in Los Angeles, California, and manufactured in China. The recall is listed under CPSC recall number 26-760.

The agency encourages anyone who experiences an incident involving these or any other recalled product to file a report at SaferProducts.gov, and reminds parents and caregivers that loose, high-powered magnets should never be treated as toys, jewelry or household décor within reach of young children.
