Papablic Convertible Bedside Sleepers Recalled for Suffocation Risk: CPSC

A mattress that shifts out of place can leave a baby trapped and unable to breathe. That is the central danger behind a new recall of Papablic convertible bedside sleepers, which the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on October 15, 2026. About 248 of the units are affected, and the agency says parents and caregivers should stop using them right away.

These convertible sleepers work as both a bassinet and a play yard. They have a gray exterior and an interior printed with a stars-and-moon pattern. The word Papablic is stitched in white on the front gray fabric panel.
To confirm you own the recalled model, look for the model number. PAPA03001AI is printed on a label sewn to the interior fabric of the bassinet, underneath the mattress pad.

What Triggered the Recall
The CPSC identifies two separate problems with the sleepers.
First, the mattress can become displaced. When that happens, a baby can become entrapped between the sleeping pad and the bottom of the product. The agency describes this as a deadly suffocation hazard.
Second, the latching and locking mechanism can fail. A failure can cause the product to collapse. That creates a risk of serious injury, as well as deadly entrapment and fall hazards.
Because of these defects, the sleepers do not meet the mandatory federal standard that governs play yards. Federal safety rules for infant sleep products exist because babies can suffocate in very little time, often without making noise.
No incidents or injuries have been reported so far.
Who Should Be Concerned
Anyone who bought a Papablic convertible bedside sleeper between April 2025 and July 2026 should check the model number. The product was sold online only, through Amazon.com and the company’s own website, papablic.com. Gift recipients and anyone who received the product secondhand should check as well.
Caregivers who use the sleeper in either bassinet mode or play yard mode are covered. Both configurations are part of the recall, so check the product no matter how you set it up.
Steps Consumers Should Take
The CPSC says consumers should stop using the convertible bedside sleeper immediately. Move your baby to a different, safe sleep space right away. Do not wait for the refund process to finish before you stop using it.
Then follow these steps to get your money back:
- Contact Papablic by email at support@papablic.com, or visit the recall page on papablic.com and click Recall Information at the bottom of the page.
- Disassemble the product.
- Cut the mattress and fabric components in half.
- Email photos of the destroyed components to support@papablic.com.
- Once Papablic receives proof of destruction, it will issue a full refund.
- Dispose of the product after the refund process.
Keep the order confirmation from Amazon or the Papablic website until the refund arrives. The photos need to clearly show the cut components, so take them before you throw anything away.
The CPSC also reminds consumers that federal law prohibits selling products subject to a voluntary recall undertaken in consultation with the agency. If you were planning to resell or give away the sleeper, do not.
From the Agency
In its notice, the CPSC describes the remedy as a refund and tells consumers to stop using the convertible bedside sleeper immediately. The agency directs consumers to Papablic for the refund, which requires proof that the product has been destroyed. The company’s contact details are listed on the CPSC recall page.
The CPSC also encourages the public to report dangerous products or product-related injuries at SaferProducts.gov. The agency’s hotline is 800-638-2772, with TTY service at 800-638-8270. The hotline runs from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET.
Why Safe Sleep Standards Matter
Play yards and bassinets must meet mandatory federal requirements because babies spend long hours in them, often unobserved. A mattress that can shift or a locking mechanism that can fail undermines the basic job of a sleep product. Even with no injuries reported, the CPSC treats the severity of the possible outcome, serious injury or death, as reason enough for a recall.
If you are shopping for a replacement, check that any new sleep product is not subject to a recall. You can search current notices at CPSC.gov or sign up for the agency’s email alerts to be notified about each recall.
