Water Bead Ingestion Risk Prompts LLK Trading Mochi Malrang Toy Recall 2026

A squishy dumpling toy that looks harmless could pose a deadly risk to a young child. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on October 1, 2026 that LLK Trading Inc. is recalling about 480 Mochi Malrang Mystery Dumpling Toys. The water beads inside the toys expand larger than the mandatory toy safety standard allows. If a child swallows one, it can cause choking, intestinal blockage and death.

No incidents or injuries have been reported so far. Even so, the agency is urging anyone who bought the toy to stop using it right away.

Products Affected by This Recall

The recall covers Mochi Malrang Mystery Dumpling Toys. Here is how to recognize them:

  • Color and contents: The toy is translucent red and contains glitter and water beads.
  • Design: It has a cartoon face and no other markings on the toy itself.
  • Packaging: It comes in a tan plastic container shaped like a bamboo steamer.
  • Labeling: The phrases ‘SOFT and SQUISHY’ and ‘MOCHI MALRANG’ appear on the front of the removable package labeling.

Because the toy itself carries no brand markings, the tan steamer-style container and the removable labeling are the easiest ways to identify it.

The Reason Behind the Recall

The toys violate the mandatory safety standard for toys. The water beads inside the dumplings expand larger than permitted, which creates what the CPSC describes as a deadly ingestion hazard.

If a child swallows a water bead, it can cause ingestion, choking and intestinal obstruction inside the body. According to the CPSC, the result can be severe discomfort, vomiting and dehydration, and there is a risk of death to a child.

Water beads are small and soft, so they can slip into a child’s mouth easily. Once swallowed, they can keep expanding inside the body. That is why the mandatory standard sets limits on how large they may grow.

Who Should Be Concerned

Parents, grandparents, caregivers and gift-givers should check any squishy or mystery dumpling toys at home. Families with babies, toddlers and young children should take extra care, because small children often put toys in their mouths.

The CPSC says the toys were sold at Easy Wholesale in San Jose, California, in July 2026 for about $10. The product was manufactured in China and distributed by LLK Trading Inc., based in Vernon, California.

The CPSC page does not list any other stores or online channels. Anyone who bought a similar toy elsewhere should still check it against the description above.

Steps Consumers Should Take

If you have one of these toys, take it away from children immediately and stop using it. Do not let anyone play with it while you arrange the refund.

The refund process has a few specific steps:

  • Write ‘RECALLED’ in permanent marker on the squeezy dumpling toy.
  • Write ‘RECALLED’ on its tan plastic container as well.
  • Throw both items away.
  • Take a photo of the marked items in the trash.
  • Email the photo to LLK Trading at llktradinginc@gmail.com to request your full refund.

Marking the items before you throw them away helps keep the toy from being picked up and used by someone else. It also serves as your proof of disposal.

If you think a child has swallowed a water bead, get medical attention right away. Do not wait for symptoms such as vomiting or discomfort to develop.

From the Agency

The CPSC says consumers should stop using the mystery dumpling toys immediately and contact LLK Trading for a full refund. The agency also notes that federal law prohibits anyone from selling products subject to a recall undertaken in consultation with the CPSC.

This recall is one of several recent actions involving squishy toys that contain water beads. The CPSC has also announced similar recalls of squishy toys from other companies for violating the same mandatory toy standard.

Consumers can report a dangerous product or a product-related injury at SaferProducts.gov. They can also call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 800-638-8270). The hotline is open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET.

Anyone who bought one of these toys should check their home today and carry out the refund steps above as soon as possible.
