About 360,500 electric balloon pumps sold at Dollar Tree stores and online are being recalled in the United States because the units can overheat and pose a burn hazard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on October 1, 2026, under Recall Number 27-012. If you bought one of these pumps for a party, a birthday or a holiday, check it now and stop using it.

Dollar Tree Stores, Inc. of Chesapeake, Virginia, is the retailer behind the recall. The pump was made in China and sold for about $17.

Recalled Products at a Glance

The recalled item is an electric balloon pump. It is a high-pressure pump with two operation modes, continuous and touch-on. The body is plastic and pink, with a blue handle and two nozzles.

The easiest way to confirm you have the right product is the model number. Model 406198 is printed on the silver rating label on the bottom of the pump and also on the packaging.

  • Price: About $17

What Triggered the Recall

According to the CPSC, the recalled pumps can overheat, which creates a burn hazard. Dollar Tree received three reports of overheating. One of those reports described flames inside the unit, and another described the unit exploding.

No injuries have been reported so far. The agency lists the recall as a Fast Track recall, a process in which the company works with CPSC staff to announce a remedy quickly.

Overheating small appliances can cause burns to the person holding the device, and flames or an explosion add to that danger. Because the pump can be run in a continuous mode, consumers should not assume that short or occasional use makes the product safe.

Where Were These Products Sold?

The pumps were sold at Dollar Tree stores nationwide. They were also sold online at dollartree.com and doordash.com. The sales window ran from August 2025 to July 2026.

Anyone in the United States who bought the pump in that period could be affected. That includes people who received it as a gift or picked it up for an event and have kept it in a closet or party box since.

What Consumers Need to Do Now

Consumers should stop using the recalled electric balloon pumps immediately. How you get your refund depends on where you bought the pump:

  • Bought in a store: Return the pump to any Dollar Tree store for a full refund.
  • Bought online: Contact Dollar Tree to receive a pre-paid shipping label, then send the pump back for a full refund.

Before you return it, check the bottom of the pump or the packaging for model number 406198. If you are not sure whether your pump is included, contact the company.

Dollar Tree can be reached at 877-530-8733 between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. ET, Monday through Sunday. You can also email ddirect@dollartree.com or go online to dollartree.com/product-recalls. The company’s main website also has a Recall Information link at the bottom of the page.

From the Agency

The CPSC says federal law prohibits anyone from selling products subject to a Commission-ordered recall or a voluntary recall undertaken in consultation with the agency. That means these pumps should not be resold, including through secondhand channels.

Consumers who have had a problem with this or any other consumer product can report it to the agency at SaferProducts.gov. The CPSC hotline is 800-638-2772 (TTY 800-638-8270).

Anyone who wants to follow future recall announcements can also sign up for the agency’s email alerts through its website.
