What Triggered the Recall
According to the CPSC, small metal wire bristles can detach from the brushes and stick to the grill surface or to food cooked on it. A person who swallows a bristle could suffer serious internal injuries, and some of those injuries could require surgery.
The danger is easy to miss. Bristles are tiny and can blend into a grill grate or a piece of food, so a person may not see one before eating. That is why the agency is urging people to stop using the brushes right away rather than inspect them first.
No incidents or injuries have been reported so far.
Where Were These Products Sold?
The brushes were sold at Walmart stores and online at Walmart.com from January 2021 through August 2026 for between $1 and $28. The CPSC lists Walmart, Inc. of Bentonville, Arkansas as the importer. The products were manufactured in China.
Because the sales window is long and the brushes are low-priced, many households may own one without remembering where it came from. A brush bought years ago and still kept near the grill could be among the recalled units, so it is worth checking even if you rarely use it.
What Consumers Need to Do Now
Stop using the recalled grill brushes immediately. Put the brush somewhere out of reach, then follow the steps below.
- Find the model number on the packaging or on the sticker or tag attached to the brush and compare it with the list above.
- Contact Walmart to get a full refund or a credit that can be used at any Walmart store or on Walmart.com.
- Return the recalled brush to Walmart or discard it, as Walmart will ask you to do one or the other.
If you recently grilled with one of these brushes, the CPSC notice does not give specific medical guidance. As a general precaution, it is sensible to look over your grill grates and any food you are about to serve for loose bristles. Anyone who believes they may have swallowed a bristle should seek medical attention.
