Norovirus Risk Prompts Summerhill Market Frozen Raspberry Products Recall 2026

Summerhill Market has recalled four frozen raspberry-based products sold at six Ontario stores after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) found possible norovirus contamination while investigating a foodborne illness outbreak. The recall was announced on September 29, 2026, and covers frozen raspberries, a frozen berry mix, a frozen smoothie mix and a raspberry protein power pod.

If you shop at Summerhill Market, check your freezer now. The affected items were sold over roughly six weeks, from July 29, 2026 up to and including September 15, 2026, so many households could still have them at home.

Four products are included in the recall. All were sold at Summerhill Market locations in Ontario within the same sale window.

• Frozen Smoothie Mix, 900 g: UPC 0 56647 15705 8
• Protein Power Pod Raspberry, 135 g: UPC 0 56647 16430 8

The notice does not list lot numbers. The products are identified by their UPCs and by the sale dates of July 29, 2026 through September 15, 2026.

What Triggered the Recall

The recall was triggered by CFIA findings during its investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The products are being removed from the marketplace because of possible norovirus contamination.

The notice states that no illnesses have been reported in connection with these products. The CFIA is continuing its food safety investigation, and the agency says that investigation may lead to the recall of other products. The recall has been classified as Class 2.

The notice also lists an earlier recall of Alasko brand frozen whole raspberries, which was recalled due to norovirus.

Anyone who bought these products at one of those stores during the sale window should check their home freezer, including items stored for smoothies or baking.

Steps Consumers Should Take

The CFIA advises consumers to check whether they have any of the recalled products. If you do, follow these steps:

• Do not eat, serve, use, sell or distribute the recalled products.
• Throw the products out, or return them to the Summerhill Market location where they were purchased.
• If you think you became sick after eating a recalled product, contact your healthcare provider.

Businesses and anyone who may have served the products to others are also asked not to sell, serve or distribute them.

Understanding Norovirus Illness

People with norovirus illness usually develop gastroenteritis symptoms within 24 to 48 hours, though symptoms can begin as early as 12 hours after exposure. The illness often starts suddenly. The main symptoms are diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and stomach cramps. Children usually experience more vomiting than adults. Other symptoms can include low-grade fever, headache, chills, muscle aches and fatigue.

Most people feel better within one or two days, and symptoms resolve on their own with no long-term health effects. Even after having the illness, a person can be infected by norovirus again. People who are ill should drink plenty of liquids to replace lost body fluids and prevent dehydration. In severe cases, patients may need to be hospitalized and given fluids intravenously.
