Burst-Packaging Risk Prompts Schwarzkopf Osis Grip Mousse Recall

A packaging defect that can cause aerosol cans to burst under pressure has triggered a recall of Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip Mousse in Canada. Health Canada, working with manufacturer Henkel Consumer Brands Canada Corporation, announced the recall on September 21, 2026, warning that the affected cans can leak and then rupture, posing a risk of injury or property damage.

The recalled item is the Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip Mousse, sold in a 6.76 fl Oz/200ml can. According to Health Canada, 90,089 units of the product were sold across the country between November 2023 and June 2026. The mousse was manufactured in Hungary.

What Products Are Being Recalled?

The recall applies specifically to the Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip Mousse in the 6.76 fl Oz/200ml can size. Health Canada has published a list of 25 affected lot numbers, which consumers can check against the bottom of their can. Lot numbers vary in format and include codes such as ‘2901X4577N’, ‘290265P91O’, ‘291435H76O’ and ‘293066U32P’, among others.

Consumers are urged to check the lot code printed on their product carefully, as it is the only reliable way to confirm whether a specific can falls under the recall.

Why Was This Recall Issued?

The issue stems from a packaging flaw that allows product to leak out of the can while it is still under pressure. That leakage, combined with the pressure buildup, can cause the packaging itself to burst. A burst aerosol can under pressure carries an inherent injury risk, along with the potential to damage surrounding property such as bathroom fixtures or shelving.

As of September 18, 2026, Henkel had received one report of an incident linked to the defect, though the company has not received any reports of injury in Canada to date.

The recalled mousse was distributed nationally in Canada over a roughly two-and-a-half-year sales window, from November 2023 through June 2026. Given the nearly 90,000 units sold, the product likely reached salons and retailers across multiple provinces, though Health Canada’s notice does not break down sales by region.

The agency is also encouraging anyone who experiences a health or safety incident connected to this product, or any other consumer product or cosmetic, to file a report through its Consumer Product Incident Report Form.

The recall has additionally been posted to the OECD’s Global Portal on Product Recalls, which tracks similar consumer product recalls happening internationally.
