Fall Hazard Prompts Recall of Branch Ergonomic Chairs in Canada and US 2026

Nearly 16,200 ergonomic office chairs sold across Canada and the United States are being pulled back over a defect that can send users tumbling to the floor. Health Canada, working jointly with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and the chairs’ importer, Bureau Office Inc. dba Branch, announced the recall on September 3, 2026, after discovering that certain units left the factory with backrest anchors that were not installed correctly.

According to the recall notice, 183 of the affected chairs were sold in Canada and roughly 16,000 in the United States between February 2026 and July 2026. The chairs were manufactured in Thailand between September 10, 2025 and April 22, 2026.

Which Items Are Involved?

The recall covers three height-adjustable ‘Branch Ergonomic Chair’ models, identifiable by the SKU printed on the side of the product packaging:

• Ergonomic Chair – Black / Black Standard, SKU 11-01-00-50-V5
• Ergonomic Chair – Light Blue / White Standard, SKU 11-01-00-43-V5
• Ergonomic Chair – Baltic / White Standard, SKU 11-01-00-56-V5

Only chairs whose backrest anchors were incorrectly manufactured are subject to the recall. The manufacture date is printed on a label found underneath the chair’s seat cushion, and consumers are encouraged to check this label to confirm whether their unit falls within the affected production window.

What Went Wrong?

Health Canada says the backrests on the affected chairs can detach unexpectedly during use, creating a fall hazard for anyone sitting in the chair at the time. As of August 31, 2026, no incidents or injuries had been reported in Canada. In the United States, however, the company has logged 11 reports of backrests separating from the chair frame, though no injuries have been reported there either.

Who Is Affected?

The recall applies to consumers in both Canada and the United States who purchased one of the listed chair models within the February to July 2026 sales window. Because the defect stems from incorrect installation of the backrest anchor during manufacturing rather than a specific batch sold in one region, owners in either country should check their chair regardless of where or how it was purchased.

Branch says it is contacting all known purchasers directly, but the company is also urging anyone who believes they may own an affected chair to check the manufacture label themselves rather than wait for direct outreach.

What Consumers Need to Do Now

Anyone with one of the listed chairs should stop using it right away. Branch is offering a free repair kit that includes a replacement backrest, three bolts, an Allen key and installation instructions. To receive the kit, consumers will need to confirm whether their chair falls within the recall by submitting photos of the manufacture label and, once removed, the old backrest.

Health Canada notes that under the ‘Canada Consumer Product Safety Act’, recalled products cannot legally be resold, redistributed or given away in Canada while the recall remains in effect.
