About 7,200 units of a squishy dumpling-shaped toy sold nationwide are being recalled after regulators found the water beads inside can expand beyond legal limits, creating a life-threatening ingestion hazard for young children. OKK Trading Inc., of Vernon, California, is recalling its Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys because the product violates the mandatory federal safety standard for toys.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on September 3, 2026, warning that the oversized water beads pose choking and intestinal obstruction risks if swallowed by a child.
What Products Are Being Recalled?
The recall covers the Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys, Model D08004. The toys are translucent pink, filled with glitter and water beads, and feature a cartoon face pressed into the squishy exterior. Each toy is packaged inside a tan plastic container designed to resemble a bamboo steamer basket. The removable packaging is labeled ‘Rainbow MYSTERY’ and ‘SUGAR EDITION’ on the front. Aside from the printed cartoon face, the toy itself carries no other markings.
The toys were imported by OKK Trading and manufactured in China. They were sold at various third-party stores nationwide from May 2026 through August 2026.

Why Was This Recall Issued?
According to the CPSC, the squishy bun toys fail to meet the mandatory safety standard for toys because the water beads inside them expand to a size larger than what federal regulations permit. That expansion is what makes the beads especially dangerous: if a child swallows one, it can continue to grow inside the body after ingestion.
Once swallowed, a water bead can cause severe discomfort, vomiting, dehydration, choking, and intestinal obstruction. In the most serious cases, this type of internal blockage can be fatal. The CPSC has flagged the hazard as a risk of death, not just injury, underscoring how seriously the agency is treating oversized water bead products marketed to children.
No incidents or injuries have been reported in connection with this specific product so far, but the mandatory standard violation was serious enough to prompt an immediate nationwide recall.
Who Should Be Concerned
Parents and caregivers who purchased the Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys from third-party retailers between May and August 2026 should check for this product immediately, particularly in households with young children who might mistake the small toy for candy or a chewable item. Because the toys were sold through various third-party stores rather than a single major retailer, the recall’s reach is broad and consumers may not immediately recall exactly where the item was purchased.
What Consumers Need to Do Now
Consumers should stop letting children use the squishy dumpling toys immediately. OKK Trading has outlined a specific disposal process as part of the refund claim: consumers are asked to write ‘RECALLED’ in permanent marker on both the squeezy dumpling toy and its tan plastic container, throw the toy away, and then email a photo of the disposed toy to recall@okktoys.com to receive a full refund.
Consumers with questions can reach OKK Trading directly by email at recall@okktoys.com.
From the Agency
The CPSC reiterated that federal law prohibits the sale of any product subject to a Commission-ordered or voluntary recall. The agency encourages consumers to report unsafe products through SaferProducts.gov and to sign up for recall email alerts to stay informed of similar actions involving children’s toys and water bead products going forward.
