Al Kabeer Swai Fish Fillets and Sticks Recalled Over Illegal UAE Import 2026

Shan Distribution Network, Inc., based in Carol Stream, Illinois, is recalling approximately 5,084 pounds of frozen Siluriformes breaded Swai fish fillet and stick products because they were produced in the United Arab Emirates, a country not eligible to export Siluriformes fish to the United States. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall on August 7, 2026, after the issue was discovered during routine inspection activities.

What Products Are Being Recalled?

• 13.75-oz. boxes of Al Kabeer spicy ‘Zing Fish Fillets Breaded Partially Cooked Swai Fish Fillets’
• 10.58-oz. boxes of Al Kabeer ‘Fish Sticks Breaded Swai Fish’
• 330-g boxes of Al Kabeer ‘Breaded Fish Fillets’

The products were produced in December 2025 and carry use before dates in June 2027. None of the recalled items bear an establishment number or a USDA mark of inspection.

Why Was This Recall Issued?

The products were manufactured in the United Arab Emirates, a country that is not authorized to export Siluriformes fish, including Swai, to the United States. Because the fish did not go through the required eligibility and inspection process for this species, the products are considered ineligible for sale in the U.S. market. This is classified as a High, Class I import violation by FSIS.

Who Is Affected?

The recalled products were shipped to retail locations in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. FSIS is concerned that some product may still be in consumers’ refrigerators and freezers. There have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury associated with consumption of these products to date.

What Should You Do?

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. The affected items should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Anyone who has already consumed the product and has health concerns should contact a healthcare provider.
