Seat Post Bolt Break Prompts Urban Arrow Cargo Electric Bike Recall 2026

A bolt inside the seat post clamp on certain Urban Arrow cargo electric bikes can snap, leaving the saddle loose and putting riders at risk of a fall. Gazelle USA LLC, of Santa Cruz, California, has recalled about 1,032 of the bikes in the United States, and about 134 more were sold in Canada.

The recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on October 1, 2026, under recall number 27-004. It was handled as a Fast Track recall, and the remedy is a free repair.

Products Affected by This Recall

The recall covers Urban Arrow cargo electric bikes in the following model descriptions:

  • Urban Arrow Family in Black and White
  • Urban Arrow Shorty in Black and White
  • Urban Arrow Cargo L/XL in Black and White
  • Urban Arrow Tender 1000/1500 in White

The frame is made of aluminum and has a reinforced foam (EPP) cargo box. The words ‘Urban Arrow’ are printed on the bottom of the cargo box. The easiest way to tell whether your bike is included is to look at the seat post: the recalled bikes have a seat post with two silver bolts.

What Triggered the Recall

According to the CPSC notice, the front bolt in the seat post clamping mechanism can break. When that happens, the seat can come loose, and a rider who is sitting on a shifting saddle can lose balance and fall.

Gazelle USA has received nine reports of damage or wear to the connection between the saddle and the seat post. No injuries have been reported so far.

Who Is Affected?

Anyone who owns one of the listed Urban Arrow models may be affected. That includes families who use these bikes to carry children or cargo, and businesses that use them for deliveries. A cargo bike carries extra weight and passengers, so a sudden loss of seat stability matters more than it would on a standard bicycle.

The bikes were sold at specialty bike stores nationwide from 2016 through 2022 for about $9,000. They were manufactured in the Netherlands. Gazelle USA LLC is the importer. Besides the roughly 1,032 units sold in the U.S., about 134 were sold in Canada.

What Consumers Need to Do Now

If you own one of these bikes, stop using it immediately. Then follow these steps:

  • Contact Gazelle USA to request a free replacement seat post and saddle.
  • Fill out the recall registration form that Gazelle USA will ask you to complete.
  • Install the replacement parts yourself, which the company says requires no special tools, or take the bike to an Urban Arrow dealer for installation at no charge.
  • Use the dealer locator on the Urban Arrow website to find your nearest dealer.

Do not ride the bike again until the new seat post and saddle are installed. If the bike is used by more than one person in a household or business, make sure everyone knows it should not be used.

The recall information is also available through the ‘Product Recalls’ link at the bottom of the Urban Arrow North America home page.

From the Agency

The CPSC states that consumers should stop using the recalled bicycles immediately and contact Gazelle USA for the free replacement seat post and saddle. The agency also reminds the public that federal law prohibits anyone from selling products subject to a Commission-ordered recall or a voluntary recall undertaken in consultation with the CPSC.

Consumers who have had a safety problem with this or any other product can report it at SaferProducts.gov or call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772.

Because the recall covers bikes sold over a span of several years, some owners may have bought their bike secondhand or may no longer be on a dealer mailing list. If that describes you, check the seat post for the two silver bolts and contact Gazelle USA directly rather than waiting for a notice.
