Crack Risk in ONOFF S9 Handlebars Prompts Mondraker Bike Recall 2026

If your mountain bike rolled out of a shop with an ONOFF S9 Carbon MTB handlebar bolted to the stem, it is worth checking the serial number today. Mondraker USA, LLC has recalled certain mountain bicycles equipped with these carbon handlebars after determining they can crack or fracture during ordinary riding, a failure that can send a rider crashing to the ground with little or no warning.

The recall, announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on September 3, 2026, covers about 177 bicycles sold in the United States, with an additional 52 units sold in Canada in coordination with Canadian authorities. The bicycles were imported by Mondraker USA, LLC of Boulder, Colorado, and manufactured in Taiwan.

The recall applies to specific Mondraker mountain bike models built with the ONOFF S9 Carbon MTB handlebar, which serves as the bike’s steering and control component. Affected model years and names include:

The standalone ONOFF S9 Carbon MTB handlebar, sold separately as a replacement part, is also included in the recall.

What Went Wrong?

According to CPSC, the affected handlebars may crack or fracture while a bike is being ridden. Because the handlebar is the rider’s primary point of steering control, a sudden break can cause the rider to lose control and fall, posing a risk of serious injury or death.

Mondraker has received five reports of handlebars breaking so far, including two incidents where riders fell and suffered minor abrasions. No deaths have been reported in connection with the defect.

Where Were These Products Sold?

The recalled bicycles were sold at Evolucion Innovations, The Path Bike Shop and other bicycle retailers nationwide, as well as online, from December 2024 through June 2026. Prices ranged from about 5,000 dollars to 12,000 dollars depending on the model and specification.

CPSC classified the action as a Fast Track Recall, a process that allows firms to work directly with the agency to announce a recall within a matter of weeks once a hazard is identified.

What Should You Do?

Owners of Mondraker mountain bikes are urged to stop riding affected bicycles immediately. Consumers can confirm whether their bike is included in the recall by entering their serial number into the verification tool posted at mondraker.com/wo/en/recall-s9.

If a bicycle is confirmed as affected, owners should contact an authorized Mondraker dealer to arrange a free replacement of the ONOFF S9 Carbon MTB handlebar. There is no cost to consumers for the repair.
