Health Canada has announced a recall of shades and alternating blinds equipped with a chain and cord-shield from Prime Custom Blinds after determining the products fail to meet the Corded Window Coverings Regulations. Approximately 6,500 units sold across Canada pose a strangulation hazard to young children who may become entangled in the cords.

What Products Are Being Recalled?

The recall covers made-to-order shades and alternating blinds from Prime Custom Blinds, which vary in size, fabric, and color based on customer specifications. The affected products include:

• Blind with alternating fabric 65% light filtering (Model PCBAL65)
• Blind with alternating fabric 85% light filtering (Model PCBAL85)
• Blind with alternating fabric 95% light filtering (Model PCBAL95)
• Solar shades (Model PCBTS)
• Blackout shades (Model PCBTB)

The products were manufactured in Canada and sold from December 2019 to July 2026.

Why Was This Recall Issued?

Health Canada determined that the recalled blinds do not comply with the ‘Corded Window Coverings Regulations’ and present a strangulation hazard. Young children may pull looped cords around their neck or become entangled in them, which can lead to strangulation and even death. Health Canada recommends that consumers consider switching to cordless window coverings for improved safety. As of July 14, 2026, the company had received no reports of incident or injury in Canada related to these products.

Approximately 6,500 units of the affected shades and blinds were sold in Canada between December 2019 and July 2026.
