About 195,000 heated blankets and heating pads sold under the JKMAX brand are being pulled from circulation after the internal wire heating elements were found capable of overheating, creating serious fire and burn dangers for anyone using them. Products Affected by This Recall

The recall covers all heating pads and heated blankets sold by JKMax, spanning six model numbers: JKMAX-002, JKMAX-7284B, JKMAX-6284B, JKMAX-10090B, JKMAX-8490B and JKMAX-6284B. The products come in blue, gray, brown or red, are made of machine-washable polyester fabric, and were sold in multiple sizes. Each unit includes a detachable white remote used to control heat settings, and that remote is also where consumers can confirm the model number.

The model number appears on the back of the white remote and is also printed on a white label affixed to the product packaging alongside the JKMAX brand name. Anyone unsure whether their blanket or pad is included should check both locations before continuing to use the product.

What Went Wrong?

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the internal wire heating elements inside these blankets and pads can overheat during normal use. That overheating has already translated into real-world harm: JKMax says it is aware of 577 reports of units smoking, melting or burning, and among those incidents, 53 people have suffered burn injuries.

The core risk here is straightforward but serious — a product designed to warm you up in bed or on the couch can instead ignite or scorch skin if the heating wires inside malfunction.

The recalled products were imported by Jiande Pengshuai Trading Co., Ltd, based in China, and distributed to U.S. consumers through the online marketplace.
