21,380 NEWDERY Power Banks Recalled Over Fire and Burn Hazards

About 21,380 power banks sold under the NEWDERY brand are being recalled after the lithium-ion batteries inside them were found to explode or ignite, creating serious fire and burn hazards for consumers. The recall, announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on September 24, 2026, covers units sold exclusively through Amazon.com.

The recalled devices are model ZHX-PB22, sold by Shenzhen Xinkewangda Electronics Co., Ltd., doing business as NEWDERY, an importer based in China. The power banks were also manufactured in China.

Which Items Are Involved?

This recall involves NEWDERY power banks with model number ‘ZHX-PB22’. The units are black with yellow charging cables. The brand name ‘NEWDERY’ is engraved on the front of each device, while the model number ‘ZHX-PB22’ is printed on the back.

The power banks were sold online at Amazon.com from October 2023 through November 2024, at prices ranging from $27 to $50.

What Triggered the Recall

The hazard stems from the power banks’ internal lithium-ion battery, which can overheat, explode or ignite during normal use. That defect exposes consumers to a real risk of fire and burn injuries, and in some cases, significant property damage.

NEWDERY has received nine reports of the recalled power banks exploding or catching fire. Among those incidents, one resulted in a serious house fire that caused approximately $2 million in property damage, and another led to a reported burn injury. No additional injuries beyond the one burn have been disclosed by the company.

Who Should Be Concerned

Anyone who purchased a NEWDERY ZHX-PB22 power bank on Amazon between October 2023 and November 2024 should consider themselves part of this recall. Because the product was sold only through one online marketplace, checking Amazon order history is one of the most reliable ways to confirm a purchase.

Given that lithium-ion battery failures can occur without warning, even consumers who have used their power bank without issue are urged not to assume their unit is safe.

What Consumers Need to Do Now

Consumers should stop using the recalled power banks immediately. NEWDERY is offering a full refund, but the process requires a few specific steps before a refund will be issued.

The CPSC stresses that recalled lithium-ion batteries should never be thrown in household trash, placed in curbside recycling bins, or dropped into standard used-battery recycling boxes at retail stores, since damaged battery cells carry an elevated fire risk. Instead, consumers should contact their municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center ahead of time to confirm it accepts recalled lithium-ion devices. If a local HHW center cannot take it, the municipality can advise on proper alternatives.
