Amana Air Conditioners, Heat Pumps Recalled for Fire Risk: Health Canada

More than 4,700 Amana Through-the-Wall (TTW) air conditioners and heat pumps sold across Canada and the United States are being pulled from use after the manufacturer confirmed a fire hazard tied to a faulty internal component. Health Canada, working jointly with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and distributor Daikin Comfort Technologies, announced the recall on September 3, 2026.

According to the notice, a snubber circuit inside the affected units can emit flames if it short-circuits, creating a risk of serious injury. If you own one of these units, it is worth checking the model number right away rather than waiting for a problem to appear.

Products Affected by This Recall

The recall covers specific models of Amana-branded Through-the-Wall Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps. The units are white in colour, with the Amana name printed on most control covers, and are designed to provide room climate control.

The model number can be found on a white sticker on the front edge of the base pan, on the front of the unit. The serial number sits just below the barcode, which itself is beneath the model number.

What Went Wrong?

Health Canada says the units’ snubber circuit can emit flames if it shorts out, posing a risk of serious injury from fire. As of September 1, 2026, no incidents or injuries have been reported in Canada. In the United States, however, the company has logged two reports of a control board component shorting, though no injuries resulted from either incident.

The affected air conditioners and heat pumps were manufactured in India by Amber Enterprises India Ltd. and distributed in North America by Daikin Comfort Technologies, based in Houston, Texas.

Where Were These Products Sold?

The company reports that 126 units were sold in Canada, alongside 4,633 units sold in the United States, for a combined total of roughly 4,759 units. The recalled products were sold between April 2025 and June 2026.

This is not the first time Amana-branded Through-the-Wall units have faced action. Health Canada’s notice references at least three related prior recalls involving similar Amana and Daikin/Goodman products over burn and fire hazards, as well as a separate recall tied to excessive heat exposure.

What Should You Do?

Consumers who own one of the listed models should stop using the unit immediately. Do not wait for a service visit or further confirmation – the recall notice is explicit that use should end right away.

Owners should then contact Daikin Comfort Technologies to arrange a full refund for the unit. The company can be reached toll-free at 833-730-0939 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. CT, or through the dedicated recall page on the company’s website.

Health Canada also reminds consumers that under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, recalled products cannot legally be redistributed, resold, or even given away within Canada while the recall remains active.

The recall was issued jointly by Health Canada, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, and Daikin Comfort Technologies. Health Canada has assigned the file identification number RA-82580 and published the alert as a Consumer product recall under the Specialized products category.
