The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says four incidents of overheating, smoking, or ignition have already been reported, though no injuries have been confirmed so far.

The recalled item is The Blue Cactus Company’s 2500 mAh Battery Pack for Reclining Chairs, model number RWX-RBP02. The packs are black, carry the brand’s logo and name on the front, and have the model number printed on the rear. They were designed as a universal power source compatible with reclining chairs from multiple manufacturers, which means the risk extends beyond a single chair brand or model.

The recall covers The Blue Cactus Company 2500 mAh Battery Packs, model RWX-RBP02, sold exclusively through Amazon.com. The packs were available from May 2023 through July 2026, retailing for about $105 each. Roughly 51,000 units are affected in total. The product was imported by Go North Rocket 28 AB, based in Sweden.

What Went Wrong?

According to CPSC, the lithium-ion battery cell inside the pack can overheat. Lithium-ion batteries that overheat can swell, smoke, or ignite, creating a fire hazard and putting anyone nearby at risk of burns. CPSC has logged four reports so far of the battery packs overheating, smoking, or igniting, prompting the recall before the problem results in serious injury.

Anyone who purchased The Blue Cactus Company’s reclining chair battery packs through Amazon between May 2023 and July 2026 should check their product against the model number RWX-RBP02. Because the packs were marketed as compatible with various reclining chair brands, owners may not immediately associate the accessory with the chair manufacturer itself, so it’s worth checking any spare or replacement battery packs purchased separately from the chair.

What Consumers Need to Do Now

Consumers should stop using the recalled battery pack immediately. The company is offering a free replacement battery pack to affected customers. Disposal of the recalled battery requires extra caution. Instead, consumers are advised to contact their municipal household hazardous waste collection center ahead of time to confirm it accepts recalled lithium-ion batteries, or to reach out to their local municipality for guidance if it does not.
