Why Was This Recall Issued?
The recall stems from a critical assembly flaw in the product instructions. The cameras ship with two types of screws: short pan-head screws intended to attach the solar panel to the camera, and long flat-head screws meant for mounting the unit to the side of a house. The recalled cameras’ incorrect assembly instructions can lead consumers to accidentally use the long, flat-head screw to install the solar panel on top of the camera. This error can cause the screw to puncture the lithium-ion battery’s metal casing, leading the battery to rapidly overheat.
Wyze Labs has received 13 consumer reports of the security cameras overheating, and six reports of cameras exploding and catching fire, including six reports of consumers suffering minor burns. The hazard poses a risk of serious injury and property damage.
