Midwest Poultry Recalls 1.5 Million Dozen Eggs Over Salmonella Fears

Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. is voluntarily recalling 1,589,577 dozen white shell eggs and brown cage free shell eggs produced in Texas due to potential contamination with ‘Salmonella Enteritidis’. The eggs were distributed to foodservice and retail customers across Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana, and were sold under multiple brand names at major grocery chains.

What Products Are Being Recalled?

The recall covers numerous carton sizes and brands of white and brown cage free shell eggs, including ‘Kroger’, ‘Simple Truth’, ‘Brookshire’s’, ‘Country Morning’ and ‘Sunups’ branded eggs, as well as bulk egg products. Affected cartons carry the identifying code ‘P-1950’ or ‘0840962’ printed on the side in date-coding ink, with a Julian Date between 157 and 184. Best by or sell by dates fall between July 20 and August 17, 2026. The eggs were produced and distributed between June 6, 2026 and July 3, 2026.

Why Was This Recall Issued?

The eggs have the potential to be contaminated with ‘Salmonella Enteritidis’, a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, elderly individuals and people with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected may experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can enter the bloodstream and cause more severe illnesses such as infected aneurysms, endocarditis and arthritis. The company identified the issue at its two Texas farms through proactive environmental monitoring and root cause analysis.

Who Is Affected?

The recalled eggs were shipped to foodservice and retail customers in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana, and were available to consumers at ‘Kroger’ stores in Texas and Louisiana, ‘Brookshire Grocery’ stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Mississippi, and other smaller retail outlets. As of the announcement, Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. is not aware of any illnesses linked to the affected products. No other products from the company are part of this recall.

Consumers who purchased the recalled eggs should not eat them. Check the carton for the identifying codes ‘P-1950’ or ‘0840962’ along with a Julian Date between 157 and 184. Affected products should be returned to the original place of purchase for a full refund.
