16-State Recall Expands for Great Value Organic Berry Blend Over E. Coli

A recall first issued in July for frozen organic blueberries has now widened to reach a second product on store shelves across 16 states. Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A., based in San Carlos, Chile, announced on September 2, 2026 that it is expanding its recall to include one lot of ‘Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend’ 10 OZ, sold at select Walmart stores, due to potential contamination with Escherichia coli O145:H28 (E. coli O145).

The affected bags were distributed to Walmart locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin. If you have this product in your freezer, the company is urging you to check the lot code before eating any of it.

Which Items Are Involved?

The recall covers ‘Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend’ 10 OZ, which contains a mix of strawberries, blackberries and blueberries. The product carries UPC 7874211226 and lot code ‘6040 01-6’, printed on the front of the package, with a ‘Best If Used By’ date of February 9, 2028. Only this specific lot is affected; consumers are advised to check their packaging carefully, since not every bag of the product on store shelves falls under this action.

What Triggered the Recall

This expansion stems directly from the company’s earlier July 3, 2026 recall of its frozen organic IQF blueberries, also linked to possible E. coli contamination. Traceback information gathered during that investigation led Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. to identify this additional lot of triple berry blend as a potential risk, prompting the company to broaden its recall as a precaution.

E. coli O145 belongs to a group known as Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, or STEC. Infections from this strain can bring on severe stomach cramps, diarrhea that is sometimes bloody, and vomiting. Most healthy people recover within about a week without lasting harm. However, in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems, the infection can progress to hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious complication that can cause kidney failure and requires urgent medical care.

Who Should Be Concerned

To date, the company has not received reports of illness tied specifically to this triple berry blend lot. The recall is described as a precautionary step tied to the traceback from the earlier blueberry recall, not to any confirmed cases involving this product. Even so, anyone who shopped at Walmart in the 16 listed states in recent months should treat the freezer check as a priority, particularly households with young children, elderly members, or anyone immunocompromised.

What Consumers Need to Do Now

Anyone holding a package of ‘Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend’ 10 OZ with lot code ‘6040 01-6’ should not eat it. The product should either be thrown away or brought back to Walmart, where the company says shoppers can receive a full refund. There is no need to prove a receipt was kept, and no other lot codes of the triple berry blend are included in this action.

Anyone who has eaten the recalled product and is experiencing symptoms such as diarrhea, cramping, or vomiting is encouraged to speak with a healthcare provider and mention possible exposure to E. coli O145.
